Time for TV

So you just got a subscription for Hulu or Netflix, and — dang! Good on you. There’s been a lot of good shows on those two lately, and people are celebrating the services as being the HBO-killer. But let’s say you want to pick a watch that matches your favorite shows on the services. What can you do? How do you pick a style that fits? Below, we’re going to be picking watches listed by Dejaun Jewelers that match the best new original programming on Hulu and Netflix:

1. Sense8

Sense8, the Wachowski sisters’ television opus, deals with individuals who have the mysterious and unprompted ability to connect their minds and senses. Since the characters are linked on such an intimate level, the show deals with the idea that everybody in the world is linked together.

Among Zenith watches, the “Christophe Colomb Hurricane Grand Voyage II” is a perfect timepiece to match the themes of the show: with a visible internal mechanism, a viewer can see how the intricate collection of gears inside the piece work together to make a greater whole.

2. The Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid’s Tale is Hulu’s newest offering: an adaptation of the famous 1985 Atwood novel. Set in a dystopian future where women are reduced to the status of property in a violently fundamentalist state, the television show explores how people — and women in particular — have to assert their individuality and rights in a world where those qualities are stamped out in the name of religion.

In Dejaun’s list of Bvlgari watches, the “Tubogas Watch SPP35D2GDG.2T” could be read as a cheeky symbol of the characters’ resistance to the violent theocracy that dominates their lives. A timepiece shaped like a serpent, naturally, brings to mind the infamous snake from the Adam and Eve story, and the watch is tempting enough to be its own kind of forbidden fruit.

3. Stranger Things

The Stranger Things theme has become one of those instantly recognizable parts of American pop culture, and the show itself is considered a contemporary masterpiece that seamlessly ties together the horror movies of the 1980’s into a tense, enjoyable journey through the horror themes created during the Reagan era.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “What does that Ulysse Nardin watch up there have to do with a sci-fi show like Stranger Things?” On its face, nothing. But one of the reasons why the show was so beloved was the way it channeled the aesthetic of the 80’s, and the pieces of the Ulysse Nardin “Classical” collection definitely belong as part of an upwardly-mobile businessman’s power suit.

4. 11.22.63

A miniseries starring James Franco, 11.22.63 was an adaptation of a Stephen King novel dealing with traveling through time and the complexity of trying to create counterfactuals in a world where the smallest action from the smallest person can have radical effects on events years, or even decades, in the future.

The 8998BR/11/874/D00D, a watch in the “Reine de Naples” collection, was chosen because of the, well, complexity of its complexities. Beyond simply telling time, this selection from Breguet watches really highlights the themes of 11.22.63: that time is more than a linear set of numbers.
