Every so often, brides and grooms choose to forego formality at their wedding and ask people to come dressed casually. Ironically, that can present its own problems: Wedding casual is still very different than I’m going down to the bar casual, and without the traditions that come along with formal wedding looks, a man may be flummoxed when it comes to accessorizing.
Today, we’re going to take a look at various styles that a man can wear to a wedding that embrace the casual without becoming sloppy:
Watches
Unless it’s made with hundreds of diamonds or covered in flashing LEDs, a top-shelf watch is always a good fashion choice when you’re a wedding guest. The nice thing about watches is that it’s an expected accessory for a man, so there’s never a bad occasion for a man to wear one.
The question is, what sort of watch should you wear to the casual wedding? Note that this isn’t your opportunity to pull out the old 80s Swatch you’ve been keeping in the closet! Rather, choose a dressy watch that doesn’t steal the show — but has the leather strap, clean dial, and Swiss-engineered case that sets it apart as a stylish men’s piece.
We at Luxurious J&T suggest that you go for a nice Oris watch. The Culture collection, with its Classic and Artelier subcollections, meet this standard elegantly.
Men’s Jewelry
This can be a tricky category to play with when you’re planning a wardrobe for a casual wedding. At formal weddings, men’s jewelry is discouraged, but the casual look almost demands a little something extra. Still, as with watches, you can’t just toss on a string of puka shells and call it a day!
A bracelet, low-key fashion ring, or a subtle necklace from a trustworthy jewelry store can make for a good accessory as long as you only choose one to wear. The key is to remember that you shouldn’t be drawing attention and accessorize accordingly. This means no piles of diamonds, no big chunks of gold, and no ornateness.
We suggest the Monterey Roadster collections of men’s rings from Tacori. Made from 925 sterling silver, these rings maintain classiness while lacking overwhelming glitz. The addition of subtle jewels, like dark red garnet and black onyx gives them a masculine savoir faire while preventing them from stealing the show.
Something Else?
There are more exotic choices in accessorizing: Luxury belts, sunglasses, cufflinks, lapel pins, et cetera. We suggest approaching this avenue with some care. If you’re getting an accessory for a wedding and have some cash to blow, you may want to go into your local jeweler and discuss having a custom piece built for the occasion. Custom design allows for a man to choose the criteria of his jewelry accessory, so you can have something like cufflinks or a lapel pin crafted to express your personal style without being too overwhelming.
