On Sunday, January 28th, the stars came out in full-force to celebrate the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. In addition to the performances and awards, our favorite part of the night is watching the red carpet and seeing cutting-edge watch styles from some of today’s most fashionable men. Much more exciting than the suit Bruno Mars seemed to have borrowed from a much larger uncle, more talented stars like John Legend, Common, Jean Baptiste, and the Migos excelled with ensembles that seamlessly mixed old and new to create something all their own.
And, featuring some of our favorite Grammy night looks, here’s how to get that “rock star ready” timepiece look for yourself today!
Look #1: John Legend
First on our list is this simplistic gold watch worn by Mr. Chrissy Teigan himself, John Legend. Stuble but still significant, Legend’s watch adds a dash of glittering gold glow that fits right into his understated black and blue outfit. Dressy enough for the red carpet but casual enough for the afterparty, Legend’s timekeeping choice elevates his look from the level of “Ordinary People.”
If you’re looking to emulate John Legend’s classy yet casual watch look, we suggest any of the three gold-colored timepieces featured above from Montblanc. From the Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie and Villeret 1858 collections, these watches (reference #’s 112516, 100931, and 107342) make for balanced and confident timekeeping accessories. Crafted with 18-karat red gold, these Montblanc pieces are also made with accurate chronometers and date subdials to keep you on time for any red carpet, conference room, or Superbowl party appearance.
Look #2: Jon Batiste
The leader of Stay Human, as well as close to a sidekick that Stephen Colbert has, Jon Batiste was looking good in this fitted gold and black colored suit. Featuring just enough shine to stand out from the sea of all-black ensembles that dominate red carpets these days. Talking this outfit to the next level is Batiste’s choice to avoid a traditional white shirt and tie, in favor of adding a simple black undershirt, along with a gold and leather timepiece, which works to help this impressive suit stand out on its own.
If, like Batiste, your wardrobe tends to be filled with a range of elegant to extravagant statement pieces, then at LJ&T suggest taking a more demure avenue when it comes to your timekeeping accessory. We love Batiste’s choice of a simple gold and black leather timepiece and suggest that you check out the streamlined and significant watches of Tissot for yourself. Shown above from Tissot’s Carson and T-Classic PR 100 collections, these three Tissot watches (reference #’s TO854101601200, T1014101603100, and T1014173603100) are perfect for elevating any look without stealing focus from your outfit’s true focal points.
Look #3: Donald Glover
One-third of the legendary Mystery Team, Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino aka Young Lando) looked great at this year’s Grammy Awards in the white and muted pink outfit pictured above. Winning the award for Best Traditional R&B Performance (WHATEVER THAT MEANS), Glover’s ensemble was made complete by the addition of a simple, gold chain bracelet. Seemingly without any sort of diamond or gemstone embellishment, this bracelet brought a level of much-needed glitter to Glover’s otherwise wistful outfit.
Great for situations where a timepiece might come off too stuffy or dressy, adding a gold bracelet – such as those pictured above from John Hardy – is a fabulous way to gather attention without being too showy or “show-offy.” From the legendary Classic Chain collection, the men’s bracelets of John Hardy are known for their unique gold chain weaving, which were inspired by the jewelry makers of Bali. Featured here, these three chain weaved John Hardy bracelets (model #’s BM90400COZ, BMP910, and BZ96RV) are perfect for casually keep anyone “ballin’ each and every day.”
Look #4+: Migos
Finally, our last Grammy night look comes from those lovable lads from Lawrenceville, Migos. Nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance, Migos – comprising of Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset – brought a trio of Michael and Janet Jackson-inspired looks that were completed with an onslaught bright chain necklaces, blinding fashion rings, and brilliantly diamond-covered watches.
While subtly was the name of the game for John Legend, Jon Batiste, and TV’s Troy Barnes, Migos decided to go with outfits that are big, bold, and hard-to-miss. Truly, the only watchmaker that can compare with the sartorially spectacular look of the Migos is the immaculately-designed pieces available from Hublot. The favorite of other larger-than-life personalities like Floyd Mayweather, Kylie Jenner, Usain Bolt, and others, the watches of Hublot are renowned for their high-fashion luxury and in-your-face designs. Seen here from Hublot’s Big Bang and Classic Fusion lines, these Hublot watches (reference #’s 361.SE.2010.RW.1704, 542.NX.9010.NX.3704, 301.SX.1170.RX.1104) are truly bewitching pieces of standout horological aesthetic supremacy.
