5 Action Stars and their Swiss Watches

It’s no secret that we here at LJ&T are big watch heads. But there’s something else that we absolutely love. That being, of course, movies. When it comes to movies we only have one rule: the more explosions the better.

There’s never a time in the office when there isn’t a Fast and the Furious or some sort of Die Hard flick playing. The only thing that makes this better is when our favorite action stars are wearing the watches we love. To honor both of these interests, we’ve put together a list of some of some of our favorite action stars and their luxury-grade timepieces.

1. Keanu Reeves and Carl F. Bucherer

In the first John Wick film, Keanu can be seen blasting his way to puppy-inspired vengeance wearing the Manero AutoDate timepiece [model #10908-08-13-01] by the master Swiss watchmakers at Carl F. Bucherer. Featuring a stainless steel case, alligator leather strap, and water resistance up to 100 ft, the AutoDate made the perfect compliment to Wick’s distinctive style of all-around bad-assery.

Keeping this style alive, in John Wick: Chapter 2 Keanu was portrayed with the same Manero AutoDate, as well as with the TravelTec II [model #00-10633-08-33-01], the flagship timepiece of Carl F. Bucherer’s Patravi collection. A significant upgrade for Mr. Wick, the TravelTec II takes features all the same complications that makes the AutoDate so wonderful and takes them to the next level with bold subdials and unique outer bezel.

2. Daniel Craig and Omega

While he’s been played by many actors, there’s only one James Bond. Throughout the last half century, Bond’s watch game has grown, expanded, and stands as a recording of the ever-changing world of haute horologie.

In 1962, Dr. No introduced us to the world’s most famous spy, as well as to the classic Rolex Submariner watch. Since then 007 has been seen wearing timepieces from Seiko, TAG Heuer, and since Pierce Brosnan’s turn in 1995, Jimmy B has been sporting a wide array of the pieces by Omega.

3. Channing Tatum and Bulova

While it might be our favorite Tatum vehicle (for that see 21 Jump Street, She’s the Man, or even Magic Mike), Channing Tatum’s role as Jon Cale (not that John Cale) in White House Down brought us plenty of thrills and the chance to see the Commemorative Hack watch by Bulova in action.

More than just Freddie Rumsen’s way back into the ad world, Bulova has been making some of the most consistently impressive timepieces on the market today. Bulova’s Hack was has been one of favorites since it was introduced, in part because of it’s very affordable price-tag, but also because of its rugged and enduring appearance. Not only great for being worn while in protection of commander-in-chief Jamie Foxx, the Hack watch is fabulous for everyday wear, day or night.

4. The Cast of the Fast and the Furious Series and Luminox, Panerai, etc

Since 2001, the movies of The Fast and the Furious series have brought us fast-paced action, thrilling stories, and a whole lot of heart. In addition to bringing us the newest and best in automotive technology, these flicks are also full of some of the most exciting and innovative watches available.

Some of our favorite watches from the “Fast” universe throughout the years have included, Paul Walker’s Luminox 3001 watch, Ludacris’ AutoDate Two Tone by Carl F. Bucherer, as well as the array of Panerai watches worn by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham throughout Fast 6.

5. Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon, and Omega

While not technically action movie Apollo 13 certainly offers plenty of suspense, drama, and fun. Based on real life events, the plot of Apollo 13 relies heavily on utilizing the Omega Speedmaster to guarantee the safe landing of on-screen astronauts played by Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Bacon.

Known as “the first watch on the moon,” the Omega Speedmaster was a integral part of the NASA explorations long before the events of Apollo 13, and considering the watches’ easy-to-read face, useful subdials, legendary chronometer and tachymeter, it’s not hard to see why.
