Men’s Watch Trends for 2018!

Earlier this week we shared what we thought were some of the up-and-coming women’s timepiece trends for 2018. In the spirit of fairness, and as an excuse for us to talk even more about what’s on the horological horizon, here are three men’s watch trends that are expecting to see crowding the shelves of your local watch stores in the upcoming Year of the Dog.

2018 Trend #1: Classic Chic

While there’s truth to the idea that fashion, like time, exists on a flat circle, we’re expecting to see an even strong emphasis on classic vintage timepiece styles in 2018.

Pushing aside modern detailing in favor of more straightforward fashions, the timepiece landscape of 2018 is sure to be dominated by pieces from watchmaking stalwarts like Tag Heuer, Frederique Constant, Carl F. Bucherer, and others, double-down on their signature and enduring styles.

One great example of this trend is this charming piece from the master Japanese watchmakers of Grand Seiko. A part the amazing Spring Drive 9R86 Series by Grand Seiko, this watch (model #SBGC005) is made with hearty titanium, features an incredibly accurate chronograph and is powered by Grand Seiko’s innovative Spring Drive engine, which requires little to no attention to remain charged up and precise.

Finding its inspiration in the racer and pilot style watches that dominated the through the 20th-century, we love pieces like the SBGC005, and the others that comprise the Spring Drive 9R86 collection by Grand Seiko, which are fabulous for wearing around the house, at the office, or in the newest hipster-leaning gastropub you can find.

Trend #2: Take a Dive

We realize that it might seem ridiculous to include such a perennially-popular timepiece style on a list of upcoming trends, but we have a feeling that diver type watches are going to be making an even bigger splash in 2018.

Between the announce of more information on Bond 25, the re-ignited fervor surrounding sports-centric timepieces inspired by the Olympics, and the inevitability of rising oceans, we’re definitely going to be seeing more and more diver watches on the wrists of the most fashion-conscious men.

One brand that has practically made its name on delivering diver style watches of exquisite function, style, and wearability is Omega. Established in 1848, the Swiss-made pieces of Omega quickly became a must-have for the modern adventurous male in the mid-60’s after they were seen worn by athletes, politicians, movie stars, and after becoming the first watch on the moon in 1969. Pictured above from Omega’s various Seamaster collections including the Planet Ocean and Diver 300m lines, these diver watches seamlessly merge Omega’s distinctive style with modern and fashion-forward details, for a spectacular one-of-a-kind look.

Additionally, made to accompany the wearer on whatever adventures lay ahead, the Seamaster diver watches of Omega feature water resistance up to 2,000 feet, chronographs perfect for measuring oxygen levels, and a rotating “diver time” bezel for optimal functionality.

Trend #3: Subtle Sophistication

On the other side of the spectrum, another growing trend is watches that are boldly understated, quietly confident, and sophisticated. Featuring slick lines and simple faces, watches, such as the ones pictured below from Rado are still super stylish, yet lack many of the bells and whistles that can sometimes overpower a Swiss-made men’s timepiece.

From the sleek and stylish True Thinline, Centrix, and Diamaster collections by Rado, we’ve got a feeling that this trend is going to be extremely popular amongst the young professional crowd as they make wonderful complements to an array of dark-colored suits, business casual chinos, and an array of other “business appropriate” ensembles.
